As a lifelong Lord of the Rings fan and with a newfound love of , I was always going to buy this set, and I'm so glad I did. It's gorgeous to look at with lots of really nice details for fans of the book and particularly the movies that it takes its inspiration from. No doubt the keyboard warrior purists will take exception to lembas bread in Rivendell though... A really enjoyable build, and I like to take my time with these, to really appreciate it. It took around 24 hours total build time, with lots of very clever bits where I really couldn't see how things were going to work and usually followed by a grin and "ahhh!". Highly recommended :-)

I have a lot of sets, each one inspires me, but this build was another level. The SNOT techniques used, the angles, the rocky outcrops, splashing and churning water, the Elven architecture, and the Easter eggs (such as 'shortcuts to mushrooms' and the superb collection of minifigs just made this such an incredible build. Some have complained about the price, but I feel it's spot on - the designers must have taken an incredible amount of time trying to work out how to accomplish some of the feats of engineering. It looks absolutely stunning. Surely a must-have for any LOTR and fan.

Honestly this was one of the best sets I have ever built! The attention to detail and the building techniques used are great. Building experience it's great. Really interesting you just can't stop. The roof top tiling work is just amazing. I only found in the last bag (part 6261359) to be somehow squishy somehow elastic and didn't fit well. It wasn't the traditional solid brick feeling that the stick together easily and can move around easily. It felt really weird and of really poor quality. I found the same issue with a part in the Hogwarts set(71043) Other than that amazing set 10/10.
